An intense herbal and spicy aroma with notes of cinnamon, ginger, orange, wormwood, and liquorice root. Full-bodied, soft, and complex.
Can be served alone, as a lightly chilled schnapps but also together with other drinks such as beer or coffee. Good even at room temperature as an apéritif.
Gammel Dansk was developed by Danish Jørgen Ketil Asmund in 1964 who wanted to create a multidimensional and rich bitter suitable for Nordic tastes. Asmund sought inspiration by familiarizing himself with medicinal recipes and herbalism used in Denmark in the 16th century. In total, the development work took more than three years, during which he tested more than 300 raw materials in more than 600 combinations.
